ONLINE DATING DIARIES: ENTRY NO.1

For young professionals living in the city, the quest to find love isn’t always easy. The 9-5 working day means that 75% of your time is already taken up and for many, this leaves little time for meeting ‘the one’.

Online dating as a concept, has been created and constantly redefined, being transformed from clunky websites to innovative new apps. 21st century professionals can now look for potential mates in between meetings, overpriced lattes and running for the bus. So finding love should be easy right? If only it were that simple…

I have put together a few points illustrating the good, the bad and the ugly in the world of cyber dating. I will leave it up to you to decide which ones are which..

·      You can match with potential suitors from across the globe, all without leaving the comfort of your own front room.

·      Sussing out people’s intentions can be hard to do, and you find that many people are on the look out for nothing more than ‘a good time’. This is perfectly fine if you are looking for the same but if you are not, this can lead to hurt feelings.

·      Sometimes breaking the ice and initiating conversation can feel less of a daunting prospect when sending messages online as opposed to face to face.

·      The people that you are talking to may not be who they say they are, which raises a big red safety flag.

·      You know upfront whether feelings are mutual. If you receive a message from a potential suitor it’s because they like you as well. No awkward convo needed.

·      Because there is so much choice at our fingertips, many people start on an eternal journey to always looking for greener grass. This results in never settling down even when sometimes portraying an idea that they would like to.

What are your thoughts on online dating? I would love to hear about your experiences, the apps and websites you use etc. Message me on twitter @DemitriaLondon or leave a comment below.
